I grew up rurally near the city of Edmonton but have been in Golden since 2018. Growing up on an acreage, I was allowed to quickly fall in love with nature. In my late teens, I was intimately introduced to the mountains on Hwy 11 in David Thompson Country. After spending many years scrambling peaks and paddling on the North Saskatchewan River I found rock climbing.

Climbing brought me to Golden, and coming to Golden helped me remember my roots. With the opportunities that presented themselves in town, it became apparent that this is where I would experiment with a lifestyle-based company focused on regenerative agriculture and rock climbing.

What I love about Golden is the capacity in which it has allowed me to get involved. I have always felt encouraged and welcomed to pursue my own visions and leave my mark on the town. It goes without saying, but I'm also hooked on its proximity to all of my favourite places to climb and recreate. I have been able to strike the balance I want and need regarding my living situation and its closeness to the soil and the environment at large.

I love Golden for many reasons. I am still amazed that I get to live in a place that people vacation to. I enjoy watching tourists stare in awe at the views that we get to see every day. Golden is also the first place that I have lived where I feel comfortable enough to be myself, because in Golden, we have so much diversity, that you don't have to be the same as everyone else.

Quartz Creek Cannabis

I’m originally from Nova Scotia and moved to Banff in 2000. I started chilling in Golden a LOT in 2002 and I’ve spent 2 decades in the backcountry all over BC, snowboarding mostly, but also shooting snowboard photos at a professional level. I made the full-time move from Banff to Donald in 2014 and worked behind the bar at the Riverhouse for a handful of years. In November 2019, I opened Quartz Creek Cannabis and relocated into town to spare myself the commute and to be closer to my business when duty called.

Golden is fantastic. Between my time at the Riverhouse, running the weed store and being involved in various organizations over the years, I have been able to meet a crazy cross-section of our community. These experiences have allowed me to form personal relationships with people I may not have had the opportunity to otherwise. Watching Golden grow over the past 20 years has also been very interesting.

Running a business has been a trip. 4 months after we opened the doors, the pandemic happened which forced me, as a new business owner to adapt in uncharted territory. As difficult as it was, I’m grateful for that time as it was an incredible learning experience. I’m also so incredibly fortunate to have my staff. Quartz Creek Cannabis is the best weed store in BC, maybe the world! And it’s because our staff are at the forefront of the operation.
