The Golden Star is one of the Black Community Newspaper Group's newest members, but its heritage dates back to 1891 when it was founded as The Golden Era by an Australian mining engineer. It acquired new owners, and its current name, 12 years later. For more than 60 years, the Star was operated by the Fish family. It joined BCNG in early 2003. The Golden Star is Golden's only weekly newspaper, and is released every Wednesday.
