It is well-known that the remaining two-lane canyon section of the Trans-Canada Highway is severely constrained. As a result, the final phase of the Kicking Horse Canyon Project to improve safety, widen and realign the highway will inevitably require traffic disruptions and, at times, full highway closures. The traffic management strategy is designed to minimize and mitigate traffic disruptions while allowing the work to proceed safely and on schedule.
The first extended closure (requiring motorists to use Highways 93 and 95 as an alternative route) will occur from April 12 to May 14, 2021. See Construction/Traffic Notifications for details. A pass system is under development to allow local commuters to be escorted through the construction zone during two brief daily windows. Details will be posted here in advance of the extended closures.
Please note - local commuter traffic, local business delivery (to Field/Golden) and school bus transport will have exemptions during this time. More details can be found at

We know this will impact all businesses in Golden and the rest of the Kicking Horse Country. Let's use this as a chance to connect as a community and be calm in the face of disruption.
