If you’ve ever walked into The Wolf’s Den chances are you’ve met Curt. When it’s busy he can be found slinging drinks at the Bar or greeting customers at the door. When he’s not working, Curt can be found spending time with his family, enjoying our Golf Course or playing in the snow at Kicking Horse. As a serial business owner, Curt has been a part of the Golden business community for a long time. He’s taken on several restaurants, an entertainment venue and even a new hotel. With each business, he’s taken on a new challenge and built something to be proud of.
Last week, I was able to ask Curt a few questions about his time in Golden and here’s what he had to say.
Q: What do you love about doing business here in Golden?
A: The people, it’s a small town and I know almost everyone who walks through the door.
That said, the tourism here in town is also incredible. I have met people from all over the world and been able to share our beautiful corner of the world with them.
Q: Is there something you’d share with a new business owner?
A: As a potential lessee, it’s tempting to compare commercial space costs to local house rentals. Standard costs to own and maintain a commercial building are much higher than residential structures, something I only fully appreciated as a Landlord. Before you get ready to rent or buy a space, do your research on local business rates for hydro, water and garbage so you’re not hit with unexpected costs.
Q: Anything else you want to say?
A:There’s plenty of opportunity in Golden for those who are ready to roll up their sleeves and try to make something amazing.
For Curt, the improvement opportunities never stop. He’s currently in the middle of renovating the upstairs patio at the Wolf’s Den to be open for the first time since 1995! Be sure to stop by sometime soon and enjoy a delightful burger and a proper Golden welcome.
